Newsletter Feb-May 2020

A tough time for everyone during COVID-19, however, we are surviving well, thanks to the continued support from all our friends, sponsors and donors. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

Returning home to Mummy and Daddy

Daniel and GebyMeet Daniel and Geby, one of JOS true success stories! These gorgeous siblings had been living at Jodie O’Shea House (JOS) since 2015; their dad was unemployed and their mother had deserted the family. With no extended family in Bali to seek support from, confused and worried, he decided to seek refuge for them at JOS.

Initially devastated to have to been separated from the children, Dad was determined to get a proper job and make sure that separation from the children was only temporary. In the meantime, Daniel and Geby were visited by their father almost every weekend and sometimes taken back to spend a weekend at home. Now their father finally has a permanent job and has re-married, he is finally able to take his children back to the family home.

JOS remains in regular contact with Geby and Daniel, ensuring they are happy, healthy, well-cared for, enjoying school and most importantly, secure and loved. We are proud to be ready for children in need, and very grateful to all of our supporters who help us to in turn, help them.

A very scary time for a lovely young man

YehezkielYehzekiel, currently in our care, had a high fever for 3 days last month. The local doctor diagnosed him with typhoid, but thankfully his blood test result was negative. He continued to run quite a high fever for the next 2 days and his medication didn’t seem to be sufficiently effective, so we took him to the hospital emergency room and were immediately referred to a Covid-19 centre. I’m sure you can easily imagine how worried we were for him.

Thank goodness, he also tested negative. However, due to the current situation, Yehzekiel was still required to self-isolate for 14 days in a dedicated sick bay at JOS. He ate regularly but still lost significant weight during this period, which was also a big concern for us. After his 14 days in isolation was completed, we got him probiotic drinks and protein supplements to help him regain his previously robust health, and he gained back the 6kg lost over the next three weeks. We could never provide this kind of care and attention without the generosity of our supporters.

Teenagers Play Room

Our three Interns from Denmark have just completed building and setting up a much-needed ‘Teenagers’ room’ for 13 years plus children; to enable them to chillax and enjoy their spare time by playing pool, Play station, and enjoying music. JOS children are the same as any others, and this fits well with our determined commitment to provide the very best possible new start for those in our care. This project finished as Covid-19 started and has been really HUGELY important for our older kids during this extended lockdown period.

THANK YOU WITH ALL OUR HEARTS - STINNE, RIKKE, MATHIAS!

THANK YOU TO ALL OF OUR HEROES

Since 16 March 2020, all JOS children have been studying from home due to Covid-19.

This has been such a challenging time as we were unable to accept all the wonderful visitors who usually bring food donations. There was also a big decrease in visitors in the month or so preceding lockdown. We are now in desperate need of food supplies.

A BIG THANKS to all of the donors, sponsors and friends who have continued to help us to continue to provide and care for all Jodie O’Shea children. We apologise we cannot mention every single one of you, but must mention that all of your donations make a HUGE difference for the JOS children.
